DREAM II Learning Events

Following the Development of Resilience Empowering Alternative Measures in Arid and Semi-arid Lowlands of Ethiopia conference (DREAM I) held in Afar, September 2019, three Pre-conferences were executed: (i) Coordination Pre-Conference held on 3rd November 2020, (ii) Co-operation Pre-Conference held on 12th November 2020 and (iii) Capacitation held on 26th November 2020. The Pre-conferences offered opportunities to develop coalitions along the topic of strengthening drought resilience and provided a platform for bringing together different stakeholders such as federal and regional government partners, national and international NGOs, research institutions and international development partners active in the lowlands of Ethiopia. There is a large interest to share experiences and approaches on topics of common interest as well to strengthen more formal cooperation through the development of a Task Force.

It is planned that in the run-up to the large DREAM II Conference (planned to be held in Jijiga in September 2021), a number of learning/ sharing events will be organized on topics of common interest. The learning event is meant to create connections between different organizations working on this topic, to share experience and discuss the scaling of the good practices. We will in the end produce a small good practices video for wider sharing and a learning brief. The learning event will focus on experiences in Ethiopia, complemented by experiences in other lowlands in East Africa.

The first learning event will take place on Tuesday March 9th, 2021, from 10AM - 1PM (Ethiopian Time Zone) with the theme The Rangeland Fodder Nexus. During the event organisations with experience in fodder management will present about their work, followed by a panel discussion and formulation of lessons learned.

The event will be held online, but it is also planned to have physical meetings in Jigjiga and Semara (as with the pre-conferences).

More information on the program will be published through this website.
